San Diego was one of the strongest markets in January’s S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index.

San Diego prices were up 5.9 percent in January compared with a year earlier, with only San Francisco showing a larger gain. The nationwide index was down 0.7 percent, its smallest drop since January 2007.cq, figures jibe with story–joe

Still, analysts said the national rebound in home prices seems to have flattened. “While we continue to see improvements in the year-over-year data for all 20 cities, the rebound in housing prices seen last fall is fading,” S&P’s David M. Blitzer said.

Prices continue to fall in some areas, with Las Vegas; Tampa, Fla.; and Detroit down the most in the past year. Prices in Las Vegas are down 55.8 percent from their high point.
